What are Giclee prints?

A giclee print is a high resolution, archival inkjet reproduction of an original artwork. The term comes from the French word gicler, which means "to spray". Coined in 1991, it describes how professional inkjet printers spray microscopic droplets of pigment-based ink onto heavy, archival-grade paper or canvas.

Key Characteristics

  • Archival Quality: Uses fade-resistant, pigment-based inks designed to last over 100 years without significant color degradation.

  • High Resolution: Printed at extremely high dots-per-inch (DPI) counts, capturing subtle tones, sharp details, and smooth color gradients.

  • Wide Color Gamut: Utilizes advanced printers loaded with 8 to 12 distinct ink cartridges to accurately match original paintings and fine art..

  • Substrate Variety: Printed on acid-free surfaces like textured watercolor paper, matte fine art paper, or museum-quality stretched canvas.

What will I receive?

You will receive a Hahnemühle German Etching Giclée print.

We use 12-color archival pigment inks—the Giclée process—to print on this heavyweight paper.

Here is what you are getting when ordering a print:

  • Paper Type: Heavyweight (310gsm) 100% alpha-cellulose paper with a velvety, matte finish and a distinct, fine texture.

  • Bordered Prints: Each print has a white border , the paper will be the size ordered and the image is smaller to allow for the border. Prints will be ready for framing in popular sizes.

  • Print Process: 12-color Giclée printing using water-based archival pigment inks designed to last over 100 years without fading.

  • Best For: Fine art reproductions and oil/acrylic painting prints where you want the paper's physical texture to give the artwork extra depth and a tactile feel.
